Jennifer and Brian get hitched…and have some pizza I Arizona Wedding Photographer

Posted on November 19, 2009

What do you get when you mix a beautiful bride, groom, The Newport Beach Temple, some pizza and a Ferris wheel? What else..a wedding! If you have been following Brian and Jennifer’s pics, they finally got hitched! She was stunning in her gown wearing a hint of metallic green eyeshadow. It was so much fun to work with them. They gave me two hours to follow them and their bridal party around New Port Beach and shoot some great stuff. We had a blast. They stopped before pictures and bought everyone monster pizza slices. It was pretty funny to watch everyone try to inhale these massive slices so we could go take pictures. I even tried, but alas could not finish my piece. Here are a few shots from The Bluth wedding.

This was shot outside the Newport Beach temple just after the ceremony. Again, I tried my hand at the Canon 45MM tilt shift, although subtle, I love the affect.

This was the wedding party…two girls to every guy.

I rode over on the Auto Ferry with the couple and was able to get so much fun stuff. Auto Ferry’s are kind of strange. You drive onto a boat and park, kind of fun and kind of scary at all the same time.

I am pretty certain she will kill me for posting this. I had to demonstrate the pizza madness that was going on. Massive pizza madness, roadside.

Okay so if you have never photographed on a Ferris Wheel, it is much harder than one would expect. I do not recommend eating Massive roadside pizza first.

…andthen the photography Heavens opened up to reveal this awesome mural wall. I did a little dance I was so excited. No really, I did.

Little note to Brides; if you love shots like these, please plan enough time to shoot them. Photographs were very important to Jennifer and so she was an angel and choreographed her whole day around them…and it was awesome.

A photographer can not get great shots if you plan 20 minutes between the ceremony and cocktail hour. Really consider that when planning your day. Also consider some fun locations like Jen did, it’s always worth it!

Beverly Kidd of News Channel 3

Posted on November 6, 2009

Here’s a great recent session with Beverly Kidd. She came down to the studio and we had a blast. She is so much fun to work with!

She had some concepts that she wanted to try.  We went to a rooftop downtown in Phoenix to get the night shot. I used a constant light source to mimic the sunset affect because it was actually hidden by the garage we were in. What you can’t see is the Mercedes that I was manuevering around trying to get her shot because it was in the parking spot I needed to use. We laughed a lot while trying to get set up. She almost stood on my generator to get tall enough for the railing. I figured I better not have one of Phoenix’s big newscasters balancing on a gas generator for the sake of a shot. The funny part was it was her idea.

I shot this with my Canon  50 1.2 at about 2.8. My ISO was right about 600 even with the light source, I needed the back sky lit. I had to further enhance the skyline in photoshop and lightroom and run a little noiseware. I used a tripod to keep it as crisp as possible. So as you can imagine, tripod, gas generator, huge (very hot) 1100 watt light all with in inches of a very expensive car. But hey…we got it right?

Here’s the beautiful Beverly Kidd.  You can follow her on Twitter @beverlykidd .

Redhead Fever… Phoenix Fashion Photographer

Posted on November 3, 2009

First of all I have been bad to neglect my blog. I have been sick like everyone else with the 3 week cold. I do not have swine flu, so no jokes.

Even though I am sick I have been shooting like mad. So much so that I am very behind on processing all the shoots. I have a ton to share but I have been quite anxious to post a few of these. On Halloween I worked with two sisters that are both signed with SIM Agency. The one I am featuring today is Cassidy. I took these shots and really had no concept when we started. I knew that I needed to get her some figure shots for her book so we focused on that to start. They made fun of me that I had her half naked for the first half of the shoot. lol…

Another reason to show these is Saturday was a very special day. I had a HUGE breakthrough. You see…I make it known that artificial lighting and myself, well…we do not have the best relationship. I am not certain as to where the block has been. I have been blessed to have help from two great friends with all my lighting work. Paul Sebring and Nicolle Clemetson have been amazing to share their knowledge, there’s a little Cindy P thrown in there too. Well Saturday I had no help, and I think that I did a pretty good job. I was very pleased with the way it all came out. I may have even text Paul and Nicolle to tell them how excited I was! (If you know me, you know how HUGE of a deal this is..) Okay so I may have also text Linda and another friend. I was so freaking proud of myself. I’ve always known the shots I want to get but hit a road block as I stare blankly at the settings. Well, I have broken through and it feels good. I had my “ahha” moment I have been waiting for.

Here are my two fave shots. The first was lit with a higher beauty bulb above her and a shadow box sitting on the ground, I had her on an off-white backdrop because I didn’t want high key white to blow out her fair skin. The second shot is natural light and reflectors. Cassidy looks fierce people!! Gotta love red heads! (I also love models that allow me to put them in funky and slightly uncomfortable poses..)
